Out & About - explore the delights of beautiful Devon

The Wood Life is perfectly situated with the beach at Dawlish in one direction and the wilds of Dartmoor in the other. The city of Exeter is close by and Kenn has a great country pub - The Ley Arms!

You can relax at your camp or you can get out and about on foot, by bike, by boat and steam train or on horseback - the choice is yours

While we recommend just unwinding and savouring the experience of being on your own in the wild, if you’d like to get out and about then there’s plenty to do. Have a look at Visit Devon's website or click on the pictures below to see some of our suggestions.

Devon has something for everyone and our central location is ideal for exploring what the county has to offer. From artists to foodies, mountain bikers to wild swimmers, gardeners to historians the list goes on. There are lots of attractions nearby or if you’d rather there’s a wide selection of historic homes and gardens to visit. You can explore on foot or cycle in Haldon Forest Park or along the River Exe Estuary or paddle along the Exeter Ship Canal for lunch at The Turf Locks Hotel.

For nature enthusiasts the Exe estuary is famous for its bird life with a number of RSPB hides, alternatively you could stay in your camp and spot deer, badgers, foxes, owls, woodpeckers and song birds. If you fancy a good hike then Dartmoor National Park is the ideal location - why not visit Hound Tor or Wistmans Wood - don’t forget your binoculars!

Taste the best of Devon - or cook up a feast on the camp fire using local produce

For the foodies amongst you there are many fantastic pubs, bistros and restaurants to excite your taste buds, many offering locally sourced ingredients, giving you a real taste of Devon. For a romantic meal try Rodean Restaurant in Kenton or The Nobody Inn at Doddiscombsleigh. There's also the floating River Exe Cafe on the river or grab an ice cream at The Orange Elephant Ice Cream Parlour.

There's an excellent farm shop in Kenton called Powderham Country Store with its own butchery and bakery. Or just over the river Exe is the fabulous Dart's Farm Shopping Village just outside Topsham. The village shop in Kennford is really handy too for those last minute essentials. Of course we will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
