Out & About - explore the delights of beautiful Devon

The Wood Life is perfectly situated with the beach at Dawlish in one direction and the wilds of Dartmoor in the other. The city of Exeter is close by and Kenn has a great country pub - The Ley Arms!

You can relax at your camp or you can get out and about on foot, by bike, by boat or on horseback - the choice is yours.

While we recommend just unwinding and enjoying the experience of being on your own in the wild, if you’d like to get out and about then there’s plenty to do. Click on the pictures below to see some of our suggestions.

For families there are lots of attractions nearby from zoos and museums to adventure parks, or if you’d rather there’s a wide selection of historic homes and gardens to visit. Or you can hire bikes and cycle in Haldon Forest or cycle along the River Exe Estuary or paddle along the canal for lunch at either The Double Locks or The Turf Locks Hotel.

For nature enthusiasts the Exe estuary is famous for its bird life with a number of RSPB hides, alternatively you could stay in your camp and spot deer, badgers, foxes, owls, woodpeckers and gold finches. If you fancy a good hike then Dartmoor is the ideal location - why not visit Hound Tor or Wistmans Wood - don’t forget your binoculars!

Taste the best of Devon - or cook up a feast on the camp fire using local produce

For the foodies amongst you there are many fantastic pubs, bistros and restaurants to excite your taste buds, many offering locally sourced ingredients, giving you a real taste of Devon. For a romantic meal try The Nobody Inn at Doddiscombsleigh or with the kids the Orange Elephant Ice Cream Parlour at Taverners Farm! Visit Powderham Country Store at Powderham Castle in Kenton for great local food for the BBQ - it has its own butchery and bakery! Of course we will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
